A handsome early 20th century studio vase with two pairs of flying geese at the narrow neck and a scene of low relief foaming waves at the lower part of the body. It has a two character signature which has been translated. “Ju Ka”(first Kanji letter is Ju then Hiragana Ka). The vase measures 7 3/4″ high x 6″ diameter at the widest. It is glazed with a lovely blue/green celadon color. Depictions of a pair of flying geese are traditional in Japanese art as they represent fidelity – geese are believed to mate for life and pictures of two in flight represent this tradition. This would make a very fine gift for newly weds because of the long held tradition associated with the two pairs of geese. Rare find Excellent Condition. No Cracks or Chips or Crazing.
