This is an amazing original woodcut print from publisher Kobayashi Bunshichi of Hiroshige’s. Kobayashi Bunshichi’s leaf-shaped stamp and bird-shaped seal. Bunshichi’s store was destroyed by Kanto Earthquake in 1923 and he died in the same year, so this was printed in the late 19th/early 20th century before the 1923 earthquake. I’ve kept it unframed to study the print front and back and its age. Colors are darkened, yet the quality of the print shines through as it retains the magic of Hiroshige’s scene of ferries carrying passengers across the Tenryu River. When framed again, much of the condition issues would be masked, but I really enjoyed it as is and the history of a print from prior to the Kanto Earthquake. I’m downsizing so it’s time for someone new to love and study this amazing print! Size: 13-3/4″ x 8-1/2″; 35 cm x 21.7 cm.
