Shoji Hamada Japanese Mingei Mashiko. Beveled Vase Pottery + Box. Shoji Hamada was a 20th century Japanese potter who was highly acclaimed internationally. He was born in 1894 and died in 1978. Born in Gifu Prefecture, he studied pottery in Kyoto and worked with Bernard Leach at the St. Ives Pottery Village in England in the 1920s. Hamada has established his own style, combining traditional Japanese pottery techniques with a contemporary approach influenced by Leach. His work is simple and practical, yet artistic, and is widely loved around the world. Size: Height:about 7.52(19.1cm).
